Are we in serious danger of facing a World War 3?

If so, who will be the major players in World War 3?

How will World War 3 be fought?

For as long as I can remember World War 3 has been coming. I was only 8 years old when the Gulf War broke out but that was the first time I heard fears of a World War 3. These fears came up again during the September 11 attacks and the most recent Iraq war but I never felt a new global war was on it’s way.  It seemed over hyped and implausible to me. However, the most recent talk about an imminent third world war seems a lot more likely to me. No longer does it feel like an abstract ideal to me and I worry about the future of our world.

The division seems obvious to me. On one side there will be the US and it’s allies. The other side will consist of Russia,  Syria, China, North Korea and Iran. For me, the major catalyst for getting closer to World War 3 is the Syrian conflict. The war in Syria has fanned the flame of tensions between the US and Russia, the two forerunners of either side.

The conflict in Syria is extremely complex but I will give you my take on it.  The US does not want the Assad regime in charge of Syria anymore. They did not seem to have an issue with this heinous regime up until 2008.  Bashar al-Assad is despicable tyrant yet I don’t believe that the US have gone into Syria with the intention of bringing democracy and facilitating a worthy government. They are in Syria due to their need for region and regime control for specific economic and military reasons.

Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has sided with Assad in order to prove Russia’s power and to gain dominance in the Middle East. I believe that Putin believes that having a government in Syria is better than having no government at all. He doesn’t want a repetition of the Iraq and Libya disasters.

I have always suspected that the US created and funded ISIS in order to assist in the toppling of Saddam Hussein. They are now utilizing ISIS and rebel fighter groups in their Syrian mission whilst claiming to be fighting against ISIS, yet they have no made no significant inroads into destroying them. Russia has made the US and NATO will weak in the region by making a far bigger dent into ISIS.

The Russian and Syrian military bombing of Eastern Aleppo has worsened relations between the US and Russia. It’s ironic to me: the US can bomb whatever they want, whenever they want but when Russia does it they mount this sense of hypocritical outrage. There is no doubt in my mind that both the US and Russia are itching to start war with each other.

Additional factors that are alleged signs that we are closer to world war 3

  • Russia’s increasing military strength and technology.
  • Growing economic and military strength of China.
  • Cyber attacks on the US. The US has accused Russia of hacking in  order to influence the US election.
  • Vladimir Putin has built underground bunkers in order to prepare for nuclear war.
  • China and Russia have apparently warned their citizens to prepare for World War 3.
  • General global and political instability.
  • Climate change.

If world war 3 does break out, it will be like nothing we have ever seen before. It will  be the quickest war the world has ever seen but also the most lethal and will combine air, land, sea and cyberspace as its battle ground. Weapons of choice will include artificial intelligence, smart weapons, nuclear weapons, and cyber attacks.

It’s interesting to note that Russia now have more nuclear weapons than the US. Russia has 8,400 which is almost a thousand more than what the US has.

I really hoped that I would be dead by the time world war 3 came around….I should be so lucky

  1. I dont belive a global conflict is iminant. If at all maybe there will be a few clashes between special operations units or some air defence systems firing at enemy aircraft.

I also don’t think Russia or the US will use their nukes at all. During the cold war when tensions were way higher than they are now neither party launched a nuclear attack.

No one want nuclear war it doesn’t satisfy any military or economic strategy. Unless your goal is to end the world. Russia and China’s nuclear preparation exercises are just a way of them beating their chest and saying we can take what you throw at us. Really though, no one survives a nuclear war.

I think the tensions will rise and then fall again but they will not rise enough to spark world war 3. Let’s hope so.

    1. @dion Like you I hope it doesn’t occur. I agree that having the nuclear weapons makes nations feel big and powerful but I wouldntbe surprised if one nation launched one at some point. I dont know if a global war is imminent but I do feel that we are closer to it and I’ve never felt that way before in my lifetime. This whole Syrian conflict has made it seem more plausible imo
