PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP. I honestly did not think that I would ever be typing those words. I watched the results of the US Presidential election unfold with baited breath and I could not believe my eyes.  Once the initial shock and surprise wore off, it all started to make sense to me. I understood why Donald Trump is to be the next US commander in chief and leader of the free world.

Donald Trump is a business man and a very good salesman. He has packaged and sold himself in a way that has made him palatable to the average American. Trump is very good at piercing the heart truth of how ordinary every day Americans think and feel. He echoes their frustrations and concerns.

He has been able to ingratiate himself into the many aspects of the US collective despite his billionaire status. Hence, making himself personable and relate-able to many. He spent much time focusing on the highly populated heartland of the US. The Midwestern states. This was a major key to success.

Donald Trump has represented himself as radical change. Perception is important and it’s worked to his advantage. It’s been very timely because I think people are sick to death of everything that Hilary Clinton represents. She is the embodiment of the institution and high corruption. This is a major key to understanding Donald Trump’s victory and significant popularity.

People are sick of the establishment. They want someone whom they feel listens to them and understands their concerns. The people want demolish the Bush/Clinton/Obama train. All the disadvantages of Trump being president are put aside in a desperate bid to do away with the standard system. People were even willing to look past his lack of political experience. They wanted the “anti politician” and they wanted to say a big FUCK YOU to the establishment.

There is a lot of panic now surrounding Donald’s presidency and what that will mean for the United States. He has made many inflammatory comments and promises, which at times contradict things that he has said before and after. People are worried that he will take away the rights of gays, transgender people, women, Muslims, Blacks, and Latinos.

I believe that he said so many absurd and unconstitutional things in order to appeal to ultra conservatives and ultra nationalists. It was the fast track way of getting their votes.  Building the big Mexican wall, completely halting Muslim immigration, taking away abortion and LGBTI rights is illogical, insane and unconstitutional. It will not happen. There has never been a Western democratically elected government who has taken away civil liberties.

The problem with the inflammatory rhetoric that Trump used in order to get votes is that it has fanned the flames of prejudice among the people. We will see a rise in bigotry and discrimination due to Trump’s campaign. How long will it last? I don’t know but I do know that these attitudes were around long before he came into the Presidential picture. I’d like to think that they will die out with time, but that’s my idealistic side coming out.

US presidents are the most highly regulated leaders in the world. They have limited autonomy and are only able to make changes that are approved of by the men behind the national security system. Some argue that because the Republicans have all seats in the Senate, Trump will be able to pass whatever he wants. Not true. Half of the republicans are against him and decision making ultimately goes to those faceless men in the shadows that pull all the strings. Due to Trump’s complete lack of political experience he will have no autonomy.

The one thing that he will be able to do is to smooth things over with Russia and Vladimir Putin. Clinton and Obama have provoked unnecessary animosity with Putin due to him railroading US plans for regime and region control in Syria. This is a necessary step towards moving away from the possibility of global war.

Ultimately, no one wants to face the consequences of a world war in this day and age. If the US provokes Russia into war, they will also have China, Iran, Syria and North Korea to deal with. I believe that Donald Trump is sincere about wanting to destroy ISIS but once he’s in the big chair and understands that ISIS are a US invention and pawn, he will be helpless to do anything.

His economic policies come from a good place. The objective of stimulating national growth, employment and economy. He has spoken about reducing corporate tax in order to entice US companies back in local manufacturing. Donald Trump has stated that he will increase tariffs on exports from Mexico and China in order to encourage people to buy more locally made products.  These ideas don’t seem practical to me. It’s virtually impossible to turn back the clock on globalization. People are not willing to pay $5 for the locally made coffee cup that currently is made offshore that costs them $2.00. If the US raises tariffs on Mexican and Chinese exports, this will only force Mexico and China to increase tariffs on US imports which will start a trade war.

His Presidency will bring about an inadvertent social revolution. It won’t be initiated by him, but by the people.  The US has hit rock bottom, and because of this it will give them the chance to rebuild from grass roots. There will be a cost to this and I don’t want that cost will be.  I know that it will be necessary in order to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.
